Surprise Cake

There are two surprises in this cake. 

1.  It is not fondant


I need to work on my photography skills.

It's really not the best example of this method, it's my first try.  It is buttercream that is meant to look like fondant.  I hope to perfect this method after a few more practice runs.

2.  I made a rainbow!



This part of the surprise was my girls' favorite part.  Who doesn't love a rainbow?


I don't know that an explanation is needed, but I obviously divided the batter in 6 and colored them.  I layered red/orange, yellow/green, and blue/purple and viola!

Elmo

Believe it or not, this is my FIRST Sesame Street cake.


They wanted the top tier to be a cupcake for the birthday girl to dive into.  She's 1.  So I made a really messy Elmo out of buttercream.



The name sign turned out a little larger than I originally planned, but I HAD to have it.



My only complaint is that the sign covers up the cute design of the bottom tier, so you only see the rest of my work from the back.

Hello

This is not the first Hello Kitty cake I've done. 



As you can see, it's a fairly simple design.




So I added the flowers around the edge to not only add a little something to it,
but also to hide the board.
