These cakes were the final results used as centerpieces at a beautiful wedding reception.

Each cake is done in styrofoam and fondant.  Technically, they should last indefinately.

Another Mini Wedding Cake

I had to make two of these so I tried this one a little differently.

First, I folded the streaming ribbons a little more, and made the bows a little "bunchier".

Then I added the dots to the top and bottom tier. I purposely left the middle alone to make the dots stand our more. I really like it, although I'm still undecided whether I like it more than none at all. Hmmm...

Wedding Cake Demo

In the preparations for the upcoming wedding, I thought I was going to have to make at least 12 cake certerpieces. Luckily, that was cut down to 9 cake centerpeices.

However, 2 more cakes were added. These 2 are going to be tiered mini-cakes that will go on the guest book table and the photo table. I decided it would be cute to make these to match the wedding cake. Here is the first one.

The cake stands about 6 inches tall. I need a little work getting the ribbons to hang the same length, but this is good practice for working out kinks on the full-sized version.

No. 8

The debate on this one is...

...with,

or without?

I'm leaning towards with.

It's difficult to tell, but all the polka dots are "frosted" with sugar.

Polka Dots and Flowers

This time around I wanted to make a baby shower cake that was a little bit elegant and a little bit cute. I hope I acheived that here.

You just can't ever go wrong with polka dots.

Quicky Shower Cake

I did have much grander plans for this cake, but I got swamped with work and a paying cake customer, so this freebie got downsized. Sorry Martha.

I still wanted it to be cute even though it was now smaller and simpler, so I went all out on the bow.

The squiglies were a first for me, and maybe they are more party-ish rather than shower-ish, but I still like them.

Build-a-Cake

There is a little girl in my neighborhood who LOVES Build-a-Bear and had her whole birthay party centered around it. In response, I made her a birthday cake to match her theme.

The bear is holding a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Can you blame him?

I totally cheated with the polka dots. They were pre-made. I didn't feel like mixing that many colors. They acted as a great garnish around the edges too!

Mario

Flashback to 1988 with me sitting in my living room after school playing Super Mario Bros for hours on end until I mastered getting through all the warp zones to level 8 and playing 8.1 over and over until the time when I magically get across the chazm with the ridiculously tiny step block in the middle with enough time on the clock to get to the end, just to blow it when I get to the last "hill" before the flag where you have tiny steps with drops to your death between each one where I inevitably fall to my doom moments before time was about to run out anyway.

These days it's all Mario Kart. I can't play this game at all, but at least my kids are familiar enough with one of my childhood icons to have friends who request this for their birthday.

I decided that this one would look just as good in buttercream as it would in fondant, and taste better, so I did butterrcream. I forgot how much easier NOT using fondant is!

Cars Cake Part 1

The pictures in this post are of this particular cake as it left my house last night. It was not complete...but almost. It won't be used until tomorrow, so there will be toy characters and long star candles added for the party itself.

I was promised pictures of the final product. I will post them when I get them.
